About sociology
The changed senario of civil services examination reveals that UPSC prefers to select dynamic candidates. This gives a cutting edge to dynamic subjects like sociology where updation is possible and done on routine basis. It caters to major selections for different services consistently and most importantly it has been responsible for top positions every year in CSE.
Another reason that established sociology as a vanguard, is the fact that out of the total topics mentioned in general studies syllabus, at least one-third is covered under sociology in this way sociology has emerged as the sole subject that is attached in all the four papers of G.S. Also, in essay paper 2 to 3 topics are always social issue (sociology) based there reasons are sufficient to prove that sociology is a highly recommended subject in CSE.
No Special knowledge or academic background is required for the preparation of sociology as an optional subject. Numerous evidences show that candidated without any special skill in sociology have obtained high scores (between 300-320).
In comparison to many other subjects, the syllabus of sociology is smaller. Thus, 3.5 months preparation is sufficient to cover the whole syllabus with proper understanding writing skill, which successfully done under the guidance of Mr. Praveen Kumar Pandey, who has adopted scientific technique with innovative methods to cover all the topics
Some Specialities
- Sociology class room technique is synopsis based technique. For each and very topic synopsis is given in the class that helps students to conceptualise the subject-matter and so helps them write answer of any question asked on that topic.
- On each saturday, there is a compulsory test for class students. The purpose of which is not just to test them but to keep them active and abreast of the topics taught in week long period.
- No dicatation is given in the class. Evidently the time saved so, is used in more discussion and concept-building.
- In test Series Programme, 10 to 16 pages answer-format is provided in each and every test. Moreover, test copies are examined by ‘Praveen Sir’ only and a marathon discussion is done everytime.
